Explaining the Kosovo's recognition and its withdrawal
Dostál, Jan ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Rosendorf, Ondřej (referee)
This thesis is focused mainly on the recognition of Kosovo, its subsequent withdrawal and finding factors influencing both of these acts. In order to identify them, it firstly introduces the theoretical and historical background, inter alia the debate between declaratory and constitutive theory, the brief history of Kosovo and existing explanations for both recognition and derecognition. Apart from building on previous literature, it develops a new distinction, between internal and external factors of (de)recognition, the former being connected with the characteristics of the country itself, whereas the latter with the influences of other states. Secondly, it conducts a quantitative analysis including recognition as a dependent variable and the individual factors representing independent variables. Thirdly, three cases of derecognition, Suriname, Palau and Ghana are presented in a brief descriptive analysis. The results show that both internal and external factors influence recognition to the same extent. Specifically, transnational religious ties (percentage of Muslims, or Orthodox), economic wealth and influence of other states, either by following their example (voting coincidence with the USA in the UNGA), or through alliances (membership in NATO) proved as highly significant, with domestic...

Medzinárodneprávne postavenie Západnej Sahary
Turányi, Samuel ; Kochan, Jan (advisor) ; Pavlicová, Vendula (referee)
The submitted thesis deals with the international legal personality of Western Sahara. It aims to analyse the status of Western Sahara in terms of international law and international politics. It also tries to review attitudes of all relevant and important actors and outline possible future scenarios in the region. The theoretical part involves the question of international legal person-ality, sovereignty of the state, its recognition and the focus is put mainly on the concept of the right to self-determination. This long-standing conflict between the representatives of Moroc-co and the Polisario Front results in the suffering of Sahrawi people and any significant shift towards the solution is yet nowhere to be seen. Except for the neighbouring states, actors who internationally intervene are for example Spain, France and the USA. Since the agreed cease-fire between both parties in 1991 decolonization of Western Sahara has still not taken place and various proposals to solve the conflict are constantly being refused by either of sides up to this day.
The Factors that Influence the Recognition of New States
Šťastný, Kryštof ; Kochan, Jan (advisor) ; Werner, Jan (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of creation of new states and focuses especially on recognition of newly created states. The recognition of new states is not regulated by international law and depends solely on the discretion of the recognizing state. The thesis firstly theoretically defines the concept of state, the creation of state and its recognition. Secondly, the thesis analyzes selected cases of both universally recognized and unrecognized new states. Thirdly, particular factors of recognition are identified in these analyzed cases. The identified factors that influenced the recognizing states' position are then divided into three main categories of factors and these groups are described in greater detail.

Pospíšilová, Jana ; Kratochvíl, Petr (advisor) ; Doležal, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis is devoted to a special actor of international relations - the Holy See, Roman Catholic Church representation. It analyzes its behaviour mainly in the issue of recognition of the new state with the majority use of an official discourse of its diplomatic delegates. Specifically, Holy See's position towards criteria for recognition of the new state, which are recommended for state actors, is observed through its rhetoric. Similarities and differences with the state actor are also scrutinized through comparison with a typical behaviour of small states in foreign policy. Case study of the analysis focuses on the question of Palestine and its worldwide recognition as a state, as this topic has possessed a significant role in foreign policy for long time.

State recognition in the contemporary international law
Sádlová, Martina ; Kochan, Jan (advisor) ; Pospěchová, Lucie (referee)
The establishment process of new states has not been finished yet. There are still some regions which declare their independence. However, their participation in the international field depends on the recognition from other existing states. The international law doesn't include a rule which would constitute a duty to recognise all new states. The attitude of existing states is influenced by their current political situation and their interests. This bachelor thesis is to identificate factors which impact the states on recognition of a new state. The thesis shows reasons why members of international community recognise one state and why some of them not.
